Every few years, our company’s growth requires us to take on more employees in various roles in order to maintain a high level of customer service. Periodically, this happens because we’ve continued to build our customer base at a consistent rate throughout our thirty-four years in business. This regular growth requires an occasionaly influx of qualified personnel to service our customers. Additionally, sometimes our company grows in spurts as we acquire other local security outfits. The past few years have seen both of these factors at work here at Northeast Security Solutions. As a result, we’ve created technician openings providing an exciting opportunity for alarm technicians in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut.
In this post, we’ll explain what working for our company in this capacity entails. First, we’ll provide some background information on our company. Then, we’ll run down a few of the qualifications for those looking to fill this position. We’ll also share some job-specific details to give you an idea of what our technicians can expect. From there, we’ll look at the benefits that applying for these technician openings can bring you. Now, let’s dive in with a look at our unique company history!
About Our Company
If you’ve followed our blog at all, you likely know quite a bit about our comapny’s offerings and approach to security. However, if you haven’t, here’s a review! Northeast Security Solutions was founded in 1988 by still-current co-owner George Condon. The company, initially called “Baystate Locksmiths,” specialized in mechanical locksmith services. As the company grew, so did its overall focus, as we started incorporating technology-based security solutions in addition to mechanical hardware. In 2003, the company changed its name to Northeast Security Solutions to better encompass our services.
Throughout our 34 years in business, we’ve maintained a strong local reputation based solely on word of mouth and community relations. As our company moves forward with 2nd-generation President and co-owner David Condon also on board, we’ve become one of the largest and most reliable locally-owned security outfits in all of Western Massachusetts. With this background in mind, let’s see what our current job opening may look like for you!
What a Technician Job at Northeast Security Solutions Entails
Technicians at Northeast Security Solutions work a full-time schedule, with an average of 1-3 hours of overtime every week. While our techs generally work 8:30-5:00pm with a 30-minute lunch break, jobs occasionally go slightly beyond these hours as needed. Additionally, technicians can also earn extra overtime as desired by volunteering to work weekends, early mornings, or late nights when the schedule calls for it as well. Furthermore, technicians also take part in a rotational on-call schedule. On-call techs receive a bonus for their on-call time, as well as handsome pay for any work they must complete while on call. Generally speaking, our techs run between 1 and 2 on-call jobs every month, with a pay scale starting at $120 and above per on-call job.
Our technicians come to us from many different backgrounds, and we train them in all of our product areas. These products include electronic installations of burglar and fire alarms, surveillance systems, card access, and intercoms. On the mechanical side, we also install door and lock hardware, as well as safes. In addition to installing these items, our technicians also make professional recommendations for installing additional equipment for our customers. With this basic knowledge under our belts, let’s review what we look for in applicants to this position.
Job Qualifications for our Technician Openings
We expect our technicians to have strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including the ability to operate power tools and hand tools. Additionally, we prefer hiring licensed electricians with Massachusetts Class B Journeyman or Class D System Technician or Connecticut E-2, C-6, or L-2 licensing. However, we will also work with non-licensed employees to work towards licensure if we feel they are the right candidate. We also perform regular background checks on all employees, so the ability to pass these is a must. Finally, our techs must have the ability to work on their feet and regularly exert 20 lbs. of force, with the ability to occasionally exert up to 50 lbs. of force. With these qualifications in mind, let’s turn our attention to the benefits that joining our team provides.
